Bart Lafere, director

Bart joined Nansen in 1993 and helped to establish the organisation. Bart obtained his social work qualification in his native Belgium. He achieved his Assessors and Verifiers Award. He is a qualified practice teacher in social work and he is a senior instructor in non violent crisis intervention techniques.

Hobbies: family time, sailing, diving, the outdoors and photography


Sarah Welch, project coordinator

Sarah joined Nansen in 1996. Sarah obtained her social work qualification in 2000 and has achieved her Assessors Award 1.

Hobbies: family time and skiing


Dieter Devriendt, senior training support worker

Dieter joined Nansen after a successful work placement in 2004. Dieter obtained his social work qualification in his native Belgium, has achieved his Assessors Award 1 and registered Managers Award with the Open University.

Hobbies: swimming, cycling, films, music, reading and writing.


Annelien Speleers, residential support worker (Lodge), seconded to Redcastle Station

Annelien joined Nansen in 2010 after a successful work placement. Annelien obtained her social care work qualification in her native Belgium. Currently, she is finalising her Assessors Award 1.

Hobbies: skiing, horse riding, karate, the outdoors.


Kim MacKenzie, admin support worker

Kim joined Nansen in 2010 as a part time admin support worker.

Kim obtained successfully her HND in Visual Communication

Hobbies: talking, drawing, reading and computer gaming



Polly Talbot, training support worker

Polly first joined Nansen in 2010.

Hobbies: socialising, reading, watching films and sports.




Fiona Henderson, training support worker

Fiona joined Nansen in 2011.

Justyna Stefaniak, administrative support based at Redcastle.

Justyna joined us in 2014. Justyna obtained her Bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a foreign language in her native Poland.

Hobbies: travelling, scuba diving, hill walking and archery.

Steph joined us in 2013.

Hobbies: swimming, reading, watching films and family time.



Anna Aitken

Anna joined Nansen in 2016. Anna worked with the local authority before and has extensive experience with autism and learning disability. I achieved my social care worker qualification in 2006.

My hobbies are reading, baking, sewing, family time and anything to do with nature.
